EXW – Ex-Works names the place where the goods are made available by the seller, but places the most responsibility on the buyer
International Carriage Not Paid by Seller
FCA – Free Carrier is when the goods are unloaded at the seller's dock or a named place where the shipment is available to the international carrier or agent, not loaded.
Note: There are two FCA terms: FCA Seller's Premises is when the seller is responsible only for loading the goods and not responsible for inland freight; and FCA Named Place (International Carrier) is when the seller is responsible for inland freight.
FAS – Free Alongside Ship is for cargo shipped by sea or inland waterway and means that the seller delivers the cargo to port and the buyer is responsible thereafter.
FOB – Free on Board is for cargo shipped by sea or inland waterway and means that the seller is responsible for delivering the cargo to the port, clearing it for export, and loading it onto the vessel.
International Carriage Paid by the Seller
CFR – Cost & Freight is for goods shipped by sea or inland waterway and means that the seller pays for transport to the port, but is not responsible for the goods while being transported on the main carriage.
CIF – Cost Insurance & Freight is for goods shipped by sea or inland waterway and means that the seller arranges and pays for insurance and transport to the main port. The buyer is responsible for the cargo once it's loaded onto the vessel.
CPT – Carriage Paid To can be used for any shipping method(s) and means that the seller is responsible for the goods until it is taken over by a carrier. However, the seller is not required to insure the goods.
CIP – Carriage and Insurance Paid To is for any shipping method(s) and means that the seller pays for insurance and is responsible until the goods are taken over by a carrier.
Arrival at Stated Destination
DAT – Delivered at Terminal is for any shipping method(s) and means that the seller is responsible for the cargo during transport and unloading, but is not required to insure the goods.
DAP – Delivered at Place is for any shipping method(s) and means that the seller is responsible for the cargo during transport, but not unloading. The seller is not required to insure the goods as well.
DDP – Delivered Duty Paid is for any shipping method(s) and means that the seller is responsible for the cargo during transport, delivery and must clear for import and pay all taxes and duties. Seller does not have to unload goods or provide insurance.
